Tile Backsplash Painting Tips

Painting a tile backsplash is an economical way of changing the look of your kitchen. So if you are keen on doing this project then here are few Tile backsplash painting tips to help you out.

• Cleaning the tile is the first important step. Mop with a wet cloth and remove dirt, grease and other stains if present in the backsplash.

• If there is any mildew use hydrogen peroxide solution to remove it.

• If there are any cracks in grout lines it is better to repair it before you begin the paint job.

• Sand the surface with 220 grit sandpaper. After sanding wipe the dust away with a cloth.

• Now prime the surface using any good quality tile product. Use two coats of prime for the surface.

• As for the paint choose the paint depending upon the color of cabinets, floors etc.

• You can use both gloss and oil based paints for the tile. The best paint is of course oil based ones as they stick better.

• Now use a good quality brush or roller and paint the surface with a thin coat. Leave it for 6-8 hours to set and then again apply a thin coat of paint.  Several layers
of thin paint stick better than a single thick slab of paint. One more key point to remember is if you use rollers set the rollers to low nap in order to avoid bubbles. If you have a sprayer you can also spray paint the tile. But protect the near by areas against the paint.

• Leave each coat to dry and do not use the backsplash for 2-3 days. Once dry you can think of protecting the paint job with coats of urethane.  Urethane coating is
important if you have hand painted the backsplash with your designs like interesting motifs, designs etc.

When painting make sure you don gloves and protect you eyes. After you follow these steps you are sure to have a new painted backsplash of the desired color in your kitchen.
