Marble has a feel of opulence and elegance surrounding it. Whether it is used as floors, counter tops or kitchen backsplashes the color variations and vein patterns can make it a very decorative element in your kitchen. So if you plan to use marble then here are few ideas for your marble tile kitchen backsplash.

Marble is crystallized form of limestone. It can be polished, stained, etched and honed to get various looks. Marble has always evoked a rich feeling wherever it is used. The warm colors and the rich tones like white, cream, green, yellow can be used in backsplashes to create a stunning kitchen. The in depth veins further gives a dramatic look to the marble. What’s more with time marble stains and acquires the look of aged marble.

Though marble evokes a feeling of opulence polished marble with mirror finishes cannot be used as backsplashes. This is because these scratch easily and etch in contact with acids. The etching can remove the polishing making the marble stain absorbent.  In this regard honed marble is a better choice.

Care of marble:

• Use a sealer to prevent stains and spills in marble. A good quality sealer can minimize etching to a great extent.

• To prevent marble stains always blot spills that occur like coffee, tea, juices, milk etc.

• Do not use soap and water to clean the marble surface as overtime soap can form a dull film over the surface.

• Always use a stone cleaner along with sponge to clean your backsplash. Do not go for cheap cleaners which contain acids or alkalies as these can damage the
surface of marble.

• For weekly cleaning use a sponge dipped in hot water. No grout cleaner, vinegar or ammonia should be used for cleaning marble. 

Thus by proper care of marble you can preserve the rich look of marble.
