Moving and Storage - just how to ease the chore

Now, packing, moving and storage might not require an advanced degree in Logistics to accomplish, but still there are many handy tips that if followed can make the chore much more easier, efficient and even fun.

And this page provides exactly that - rudimentary tips for the first time mover to reduce the cost of moving and storage ... and make the whole job a lot easier.

Tips for packing and storage ...

Tip #1 : Use free boxes to pack your stuff ! Yes, that's right - free boxes ! Packing all your stuff might require well dozens of boxes and buying them all may be fairly expensive. Instead, you may want to use free boxes available at websites such as Craigslist.com  ...  or just use those outside behind large strip malls.

Tip # 2:  Use small, low boxes to pack books or other heavy items. This way, it might be easier to carry heavier items than otherwise. Stuffing forty or fifty very thick, hard bound books in a single large box would make it almost impossible for one or possibly even two people to carry it.

Tip # 3 : You might want to tape drawers, doors  and cords to their bases while keeping them closed. Swinging doors or dangling electrical cords might make your job of moving harder.

Tip # 4 : Label 5 sides of a box. The sixth side would be taped and would be facing down. And in some cases, you might even want to label the sixth side too. And why put in all this effort ? Well, this makes unpacking after you get to your new home a lot easier. That way, you will spend a lot less time looking for stuff that you might need immediately ... like the coffee maker and the toaster you need but is buried in some box you have no idea which. If all the sides of a box are labeled, then you will spend a lot less time turning around all the other boxes.

Tip # 5 : Pack all essential items like medicines, paperwork, toothbrush, deodorant  etcetera in one box, label it clearly and keep it with you at all times. Else, all the essential items might end up in a dozen different boxes :-)

Tips for moving ...

Tip #1 : Load the truck carefully and pack by weight such that items like mirrors and glass do not get crushed by other heavier items.

Tip # 2: Drive SLOWLY ! Contents of the truck might rearrange themselves while in transit. This means that when you finally arrive at your new place, you may find coat hangers, clothing and other items flying at you….

Or alternatively, you might want to consider professional packers and movers to help you out with moving your stuff.
