Ever wondered why you need ceramic tile saw
blades ? Why not just use any other sharpened metal blades that can be used to
cut other tiles like stainless steel or stone and use it to cut ceramic tiles as
well ? After all, if a blade can cut stone or steel, then cutting ceramic tiles
with it should be like slicing cheese ... Right ?
Well, if you have ever wondered about this, then
this is one page you might want to read :-)
As it turns out, cutting ceramic tiles with sharp
metallic blades isn't exactly like slicing cheese ... not even a least bit like
it. Ceramic tiles are thick and brittle. Any other circular metallic saw that is
great at cutting metal would either break the tiles or get very hot and
just stop cutting.
And that's why a special saw was designed to cut
ceramic tiles. Also referred to as the "wet tile saw", it uses a dull,
non-serrated blade, a water pump and a hose. The water hose directs a cool
stream ( or jet ) of water to the cutting area while the saw just grinds through
the tile. The blade uses diamond or sharp sand crystals to cut.
